Hmm, I wonder why it's on my machine. I wiped my hard disk, and allowed Debian Testing to encrypt the entire disk, before installing. I wonder what in Debian installed it.

Thanks for that link, I had googled it, but didn't spot that.

It doesn't appear to be a part of Debian.

See:
http://www.flexerasoftware.com/producer ... t-connect/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FlexNet_Publisher

From the second link:
Due to the way the digital rights management (DRM) works in FlexNet Publisher, FlexNet affects bootloaders; this makes FlexNet Publisher incompatible with drives encrypted with TrueCrypt[4][5] and renders Linux-based systems unable to boot.[6][7] The Truecrypt developers also state that "the issue is caused by inappropriate design of the third-party activation software."[8]

Thanks, I read those sites. I have no idea what installed it. I'm starting to think maybe I have a rootkit infection pretending to be NetFlex. Sounds paranoid I know, what else could it be?

I just wiped this hard disk two? weeks ago, and installed Debian Testing from netinstall cd. I have only installed packages from testing. I haven't really installed anything on this laptop yet, with the exception of wine, to run an old win95 game (startrek botf). Everything else is from testing.

Before I wiped the disk, I flashed the bios to latest (2010 lol). UEFI is disabled, because secureboot isn't supported.

I'm tempted to flash again, wipe again, install new again. It's not like i'm gonna lose anything, it's a fresh install.

How, exactly, did you wipe the drive?

Hi,

I used Partition Wizard to perform a destructive format. Took half a day.

If you decide to do a re-wipe, I'd boot from a live CD (e.g. grml) and use dd.

Here are a couple of examples:
http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/linux-clea ... d-command/

Of course, you could wipe the whole HDD using dd if you want, but it's probably not necessary. The first example on the above page would probably be good enough, but I think I would be inclined to use count=1000 (for good measure) since it would still be very quick.

Hey OpI just sent you a p.m. but I think I'm in the same situation with the rude kid. Was just wondering how it went if you ever resolved it. I know this the right is like a million years old.
