I get irritated by posters who keep ranting about how irritated they are with other posters' questions. Lighten up, get a life, go see the psychiatrist.

After having to change my laptop's motherboard, I had to opt to using XFCE4 instead of the more elaborate KDE. The latter had far better touchpad control than XFCE4. In fact, to enable tapping, I had to edit a configuration file, as XFCE4's mouse settings only provide for mouse speed and acceleration! Furthermore, the touchpad has the habit of moving the caret to some other location when I type and there is no option to change that. Regarding other options, XFCE4 scores very high marks, but regarding touchpad options and control, it is a complete failure.

After some time after I replaced the motherboard, I tried KDE in Wheezy which used 1.8 GB just to load. This is too much for the amount of RAM (2 GB) I have installed. If I opt to use KDE, I must also be contented having a lot of swapping, and I don't like swapping as it makes my machine crawl with a snail's pace.

The worst infection of all, is a false sense of security!
It is hard to get away from CLI tools.

XFCE for me needs KDE or Gnome apps and services for both touchpad functions and other, with 4GB of RAM I still miss KDE. Think I will try LXDE, OpenBox or JWM next?

P.s: is Gnome the top of the list and gaining ground because it's so average like "commoners" and microcougheds made to be? :P

Without provocation? Not true. Besides the sarcasm meter was pegged.

I still don't see a link or explanation! :?
I too have been the victim of random unprovoked attacks, but afterall, this is the internet, and people can hide behind their sock puppet accounts and spew diatribe at will, like many have advised me years ago, grow a thicker skin and DON'T take things so seriously coming out of the mouths of whackjobs on the world wide interNUT. :!:

XFCE.

KDE is nice but unstable.
Gnome3 - in addition to all the criticism I can say that it can't work in VM, so no, thanks.
Enlightment - 50/50 - I cant decide if it's good or bad
other "tiny" WMs - I have no time for tweaking my desktop, I need desktop to use the applications.

Regards.
