Researcher Uncovers McAfee Linux VirusScan Flaw

#1 Post by mzilikazi »

I have always despised McAfee for their terrible anti-virus software on the Win32 platform. Now they've brought their lousy software over to Linux and what do we get?
"This is very easy to exploit, and if VirusScan is used in a mail scanner on a mail server, just sending someone an e-mail with an attachment with the right name would execute it," Moc said.
Notice that McAfee doesn't even apologize but instead berates the Gentoo hacker that discovered the flaw in the first place.

I can't count the number of times I've fixed my wifes company laptop because of problems w/ McAfee's products.
My suggestion is to leave the closed source vendors alone. There are plenty of OSS alternatives out there.
