"I'll dare say that Debian 4.0 is going to be the best Linux distribution released to the date."

This is a glowing review. In the "Pros and Cons" section at the end, he had to stretch to find some cons.

Anyone submitted the review to OSNEWS yet?

-------------------------------
Why is it?
- Difficult to build your packages from source

- Graphical installer a bit "hidden"
I thought GUI was the default and I certainly expect it to ship as default!

- You need to add manually an external repository to add some codecs
This is the way it should be IMO! Seems normal to me.

- No artwork / recognisable look
Strange I have the debian swirl wallpaper and the debian swirl screensaver and so forth.... They certainly do not recreate the wheel with themes or anything and I am glad since I have my favorite.

- Exim installed and started by default on a desktop
I have never understood why exim is installed....

- Network configuration removed from installer?
Not that I know of????

- Difficult web page, no official forums
Web page could use a make over but it is a LOT to make over. I have thought about doing a site that leads to the info on the debian site or something. No official forums - I think is probably a GOOD thing.

(should be)
PROS:
the universal OS - what more of a compliment can you give...
;)

no text based install is the default (except possiblly if you use the gtk miniiso to install)

As we are speaking of it, what exactly is the GTK Mini-ISO ?

afaict its a very minimal (about twice as big as the floppy set but smaller than the buisnesscard or so called "netinst" isos) iso image that boots the debian installer in graphical mode by default and is set up for doing most of the retrival over the network.

So basically it's a more stripped down version of the Business Card image..

Is it okay to submit that review to osnews?

Yes, around 10-12MB IIRC, it only ships with a very minimal G-I that downloads components off the net.

I think it's a great review for Debian. I'm all for it. Where do I vote? :D
