More like precambrian.

Check back in a decade when you will finally be able to run Plasma 5.

Stable means it always works. Gotta love Stable.

Sid: sort of a rolling distro: nice on a laptop you use mainly for web surfing (and back up any work you want to keep very regularily)

Stable: workhorse

Commercial legacy: CentOS forums had a thread on patching CentOS *4* for the bash env vulnerability. CentOS 4 updates stopped in Feb 2012. It is a trade-off: cost of reinstalling then doing dev work on the applications the server runs vs the time taken to patch the ancient steam driven OS underneath the applications.

I find that most updates are just new version numbers, and that by the time actual advancements are no longer able to be backported, testing is already in freeze for the next stable.

I find that the only time I actually notice any package updates is when the changes annoy the crap out of me...

EDIT: Firefox, I'm looking at you!

It is old but it's okay! I only upgraded to testing today because Jessie is coming out "Soon".

And when it does it's gonna be new enough for another year or so.

The DNA is ancient nanotechnology that accurred naturally billions of years ago but is still used today. Nature, with its great feedback mechanism, that of selection of what works, has lazily persisted to using the DNA as the basis molecule of all life forms. Why not lazy nature invent something new, more exciting that works, like say, instead of 3 digit codons, four digit codons? These have been successfully created in the lab and work. With 3 digit codons one only has 64 permutations to encode for proteins and basic cell instructions like gene starting points and gene ending points.

Apparently, what works for nature, is never replaced. If a mutation occurs, it has to compete for it to survive, otherwise it is rejected.

Why should well tried and proven technology be rejected for the worship of fashion?

Insofar as manifestations of functional deficiencies are agreed by any and all concerned parties to be imperceivable, and are so stipulated, it is incumbent upon said heretofore mentioned parties to exercise the deferment of otherwise pertinent maintenance procedures.

Many do understand those so called deficiencies implying what you said for the vast majority of protesters does not apply. Nevertheless, they make apparently conflicting decisions to which they are rightfully entitled.

Alas, that was amusing. Thanks for sharing. :)
