QEMU Accelerator (kqemu) released under the GPL!

#1 Post by ajdlinux »

As of version 1.3.0pre10 KQEMU has been GPLed.

Hopefully the kqemu package will be put in main before the etch release.

Hmm I doubt it with Etch frozen, but maybe the devs will make an exception, reading Planet Debian they seem pretty pleased about it as well.

Not sure about Etch but its been in non-free Sid for a couple of months, so hopefully it moves from non-free into main now that it is GPL.

To get the new GPL'ed kqemu, you can use the debs found here:
http://archive.daniel-baumann.ch/debian/packages/kqemu/

Soon the Debian Devs will upload the GPL kqemu to experimental.. But note that as of pre10 is GPL'ed, the other kqemu's will most likely stay in non-free, because they are version pre9.

The main obstacle to an etch exception is that an upload that changes to main will need to go through NEW again and get approval from the rather busy ftpmasters, which may not come quickly...
