APT -- replaced/obsoleted packages (suggestion)

#1 Post by roguemouser »

This is a minor thing, but I was wondering ... when I try to install a package, I am sometimes told that the package is no longer available, but is replaced by another package, followed by the name of the new package. Not a big deal, but I was wondering if apt might offer the option to install that newer package, maybe in the form of a simple "Do you want to install this instead (Y/n)" kind of thing? It's as simple thing to retype the line, or use the up arrow, and replace the package name, but I was just wondering if this sort of thing might be done, or why it might not be a good idea.
