[resolved] might want to wait before updating kernel...

Postby wizard10000 » 2016-03-10 13:33

Kernel update I installed this morning has some issues with CPU governors - my i7 is locked at slowest speed and forcing performance governor doesn't help.

I'm sure this will get fixed but here's the bug report - https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepo ... bug=622277

Which kernel are you using? I did an update to Sid this morning, kernel 4.4.0-1-amd64, and my CPU frequency is at max, as set by performance governor.

At work and laptop is at home, but I updated yesterday and things ran fine and again this morning and the governor broke. We're most likely running the same kernel so maybe it's not impacting all hardware platforms?

edit: Just thought of something. My old i7 laptop doesn't support intel_pstate. If yours does, governors don't get set the same way :)

Figured it out. My five-year old granddaughter had knocked the power cord out of my laptop just a little bit. It still *looked* like it was plugged in.
