Iceweasel is back!

I didn't like the switch from "Iceweasel" to "Firefox", so I downloaded a package from the squeeze repositories and replaced some of my icons and installed this extension
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... -branding/. Now I am happy again but I only want the package to provide the Iceweasel branding in the repos.

It is after all the name that really counts.

Well, I prefer the name, and I have found another way, not sure if that is a good idea, though to add 3rd party repos. Uninstall Firefox first, if you have it and want Iceweasel.
Code: Select all
sudo touch /etc/apt/sources.list.d/gnewsense.list
echo deb http://archive.gnewsense.org/gnewsense ucclia main | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/gnewsense.list
echo deb-src http://archive.gnewsense.org/gnewsense ucclia main | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list.d/gnewsense.list
echo deb http://archive.gnewsense.org/gnewsense ucclia-updates main | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list.d/gnewsense.list
echo deb-src http://archive.gnewsense.org/gnewsense ucclia-updates main | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list.d/gnewsense.list
echo deb http://archive.gnewsense.org/gnewsense ucclia-security main | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list.d/gnewsense.list
echo deb-src http://archive.gnewsense.org/gnewsense ucclia-security main | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list.d/gnewsense.list
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gnewsense-archive-keyring
sudo apt-get install iceweasel -t ucclia
sudo apt-mark hold iceweasel

Download the package and run it with gdebi or dpkg -i and it runs also with Jessie.

There are some differences between Iceweasel and Firefox. I use the addon "click and clean", which used to work on Firefox, but no longer works. When you try to set permissions it gives you a blank page that says it cannot find the address. Yet "click and clean" works on Iceweasel. Not sure what the differences are under the hood, but they are there and I continue to use Iceweasel myself.
