Hello,
I just wanted to point out that logging in to
https://web.skype.com/en/
Now has working webrtc audio calls directly from the browser on Linux too (tested in Chrome). No plugin required.
Only audio for now it seems.
Just tested it on 2 Debian (one testing, one stable) with Chrome. Echo test call works too.
Note: It DOESN NOT work with the Linux Skype client on the other end. I did not try it against Windows/Mac clients.
Scheduled Maintenance: We are aware of an issue with Google, AOL, and Yahoo services as email providers which are blocking new registrations. We are trying to fix the issue and we have several internal and external support tickets in process to resolve the issue. Please see: viewtopic.php?t=158230

I have been checking this out for a while, as I far I remember there weren't available plugins for Firefox and Chrome available as for Windows and MacOS.
If now is working at least the audio is a cool step forward.

First you needed a plugin that worked on Windows and Mac Os X. Then they made it work on Edge without plugins usong ortc i supppose (plugin needed for the others).
Now they implemented it through webrtc, at least audio for now. As webrtc supports video too, i suppose it is only a matter of time to implement video too.
BTW webrtc suppport was talked about 1-2 years ago by Microsoft/Skype

I read most of the comments, too funny...
However I think is time to move on toward a new alternative for making videocalls.

If you need a really secure/private setup, you should use your own service. Installing an xmpp/jabber server is trivial and does not need any complicated setup. Or host something like jitsi-meet with password/certificate protection. And preferably everything over a vpn...
BTW i did all of the above.
