ADDING APP TO TOOLBAR

I'm fairly new to Debian, but have been using Linux in general for quite awhile.

I can see how to add plug-ins to the toolbar, but it seems to have escaped me as to how to add, for instance, Firefox to a toolbar.

First, it would help if you told us what desktop environment you are using?

It does matter which DE (Desktop Environment)
But this is how I do it. Simple.
Pay attention

Or, in MATE, you can just right click on the menu item and select "add this launcher to panel". Alternately right click on the panel and select "add to panel". Most other DEs have similar means.

Right, well thanks for the replies.

I'm using Xfce for the DE.

There is no MATE.

And the drag and drop is what I've been accustomed to in the past.

The friend who set this up mentioned the version of Jessie that he installed is still a test version. I think I got that right.
I am very much a user and abuser way less on the tech side. So I'm open to suggestion and appreciate all who reply.

# Right click on the toolbar/ panel and select "add new items..."
# Select "launcher" and click "add"
# In the toolbar/ panel select the empty launcher. "Right click" and then "properties".
# Click "+"
# Find your application and select it and then click "add"
# Close the properties and you should have an application in the toolbar/ panel.

I don't know if this works in Jessie's xfce 4.10, but in 4.12, you can drag and drop an application's .desktop file from the Thunar file manager onto the quicklaunch bar, and it will create a launcher (bringing up a dialog box box first to make sure that's what's intended)

Most .desktop files live in /usr/share/applications.

Got it.

Ardouos. I tried your suggestion, however when after I had right clicked, 'properties' did not appear in the box.
The other thing is and I'm not sure what is exactly supposed to be.....
When I go to the toolbar and right click to 'add new items', directly under this is ' add new plug in's', which I don't think Firefox is and when scrolling down the list, Firefox is not on it.

So

I went Steve's route, which despite having used Linux for several years, was the first time I can recall using a file manager.
If you hadn't put the path is there I'm not sure I would have found that spot.

As I stated before, I am user not a tech type. I'm here because I really don't like corporate bullies.

Gentlemen I appreciate the help. I promise I'll be back.

Rut-roh. This does not bode well for relying on your friend's expertise. Stretch, not Jessie, is the current Testing; Jessie is the current Stable.

Sorry, I don't know how I could make this clearer without providing images. :?

Drag and drop like MATE/Gnome is a bit different in Xfce, so you might be confused there.
