Is there a Sidebar like the windows Vista one for linux?
(before you think it: Yes, I use windows, not vista, and: I know some of you hate Microsoft but some things of the visual look great)

not familar with the vista sidebar but there are all kinds of docks/slits/sidebars in GNU+linux for anything and everything

What are you wanting the sidebar to do?
Aye, fight and you may fail, sellout, and you may live, a while. And dying in your MScash beds, you'll be willin' to trade ALL the cash, to come back here and tell our enemies that they may FUD our customers, but they'll never take...OUR FREEDOM!

You can just add another panel or drag your current panel. Works in Gnome, I'd assume the same in KDE

But no matter what "sidebar" application you use in Linux, nothing can beat the Longhorn sidebar (note that Vista is Longhorn, but the new Vista sidebar looks awful):

I am not sure where it was, but someone did make a sidebar-like SuperKaramba Theme.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SuperKaramba

Oh that kind of sidebar, it does look quite horrendous.

I don't think there is an all in one solution to that, but using the power of OSS you can combine many little things to accomplish the task.

The closest thing to an all in one would be gkrellm, you can add controls to xmms and other audio things.

You could create a panel that is on the side and add various applets and launchers to recreate the functionality you want.

You could use several gdesklets lined up to give the same functionality and is a little prettier than gkrellm.

There are lots and lots of 'sidebar' themes for Superkaramba on http://www.kde-look.org/
