Talking about the system, Im secure at 200%, so here no need of paranoids,

talking about apps with malware, hacks, etc., I would be concerned about those ones which might get me into troubles, So here, we're talking about the store of sensible money documents in the Cloud, and Virtual Bank.

- Im some paranoid with Virtual Bank operations, Here, i User firefox-Esr which i use for virtual buys operations and try to mantain it clean and updated.
- The other scenario are some importants documents and passwords containers i keep in the cloud with redundance backup and two or three security layers.
Furthermore i combined with some stenography security.

I hope to be enought secure... :? :?

by the way, when i was younger I felt into a fishing bank trap, I was in the job queryng my virtual portal bank, and i dorn know how they could know it, but they got to send me a fishing mail with the scheme layout of my bank, so i felt in it, and they got to enter in my account bank. Lucklly they couldn't commit any money transiction as they need a code key-master for operations.

I do not feel paranoid about software. There is software that I make sure not to use when such software is not fit for the purpose like making an online payment or transaction. For that, I use either Chromium/Chrome or Firefox after making sure I update my system and, if necessary, I reboot it. Yes, I know, Chromium/Chrome and Firefox track users, but since I am not the designer and policy maker for my banks of which I am a client, I have to be contented with what they support. Furthermore, Chromium and Firefox are used by a vast number of users, implying their developers, are constrained to make sure both popular browsers have the required security for their users. According to my logic it is more risky to make payments and do transactions using a legacy browser.

This is like everything, one makes sure to use the best available tool, software being no exception.

Anything produced by Microsoft, but then again , I don't worry about it because
I don't use any of their products.

Ya know, the Debian Forums login isn't encrypted...

I use Dropbox for work-related stuff, so if some hacker wants a bunch of 8th-grade lesson plans, they're welcome to it.

^ the classical "i don't worry about being spied upon i have nothing to hide" argument. :|

anyhow, here's a thought that got me paranoid:
facebook have collected so much data on their users, including usage habits, anywhere they click, scroll, comment, befriend etc. - it's all so damn psychological - that they can actually steer their users into whatever behavior they want.
i'm pretty sure that many facebook users feel (unconsciously) that they have to do more, "like" more, just generally spend more time on facebook, because otherwise they will sink to the bottom.
and i'm pretty sure that this (rather common and not facebook or even internet connected) fear is being exploited by facebook.

Did you see the discussion about MS involvement in Linux and Debian on the second page of this thread? What do you think about that? Or are you "no commenting" it?

Yes I've seen it, I wasn't going to comment.
Linux and MS windows are not the only Operating systems , or software, available.

There are other choices. But that is all I have to say, I don't feel like argueing, and if
I don't use a "mainstrean OS", that is my buisness.
MS and Linux can do what ever they want, and I respect that,
I don't have to follow the "mainstream" crowd.

I feel kind of secure in knowing that Debian bureaucracy is too slow moving for Microsoft to be able to force something evil in there :P

Yeah, it's not slow just for the sake of it. Things just needs to be discussed thoroughly and bounced through a couple of instances.

Geez, first i get heat for posting too-specialized questions about quantum inserts, now I'm getting it for a lighthearted comment about Dropbox. I can't win D:
I'm aware of the risks, which is why I use Dropbox only on work systems. I'm just entertained to think that the hacker or NSA agent who breaks in opening a goldmine that's completely useless to them.

don't worry; my writings are dry but i'm not "giving it" to you :D
to be fair, i misread part of that last post "my 8th grade homework", which might have influenced my comment a little...

i think they know that.
that's why they let machines do it - they don't get disappointed.
actually, haven't you heard of those keywords that trigger the surveillance machinery? i think that's how it works.

I was digging around and found this in /bin, called pleaselookaway.sh; should I be worried?

Code: Select all

#!/bin/bash
for i in ~/Dropbox/Mina_essays; do cat $i >> /dev/nsa_wormhole && echo "i have stolen minas essay again please do not say anything about this thank you" && cat /dev/null > / ; sleep 10s; done
But, on a serious note. ;)
When I first started, I had my reservations because I remember how many times Dropbox was hacked when it first started, but after using some of our district software's "security," I sorta gave up that ghost. I wish the school board gave me a stipened for every time I cringed at:

>only lowercase letter with numbers
>password is the email
>"Just use this, it'll connect everything...no, I don't know how it works."
>"No special characters allowed in the password."
>"Here is your password [in plaintext]"
>"We've been losing internet every day this week because our district is experiencing a DoS" (Happens about twice a year.)

After about six months, Dropbox seemed far more secure. It's so sad.
