It's worth considering bringing it back in some form, and also creating a new basic theme with the wiki and manual colors i/e pink, gray, white, and blue.

Me too. I presume by "philistines" you mean "sad people with grey lives". The world needs more colour right now!
I still like the idea above of a subtle ripple effect around the Debian logo like a bullseye ie. semi-transparent concentric gradient circles.

Purple won't get a gong. Too close to Devuan.
