Which Debian logo do you like better?

#1 Post by ben »

I found this Debian wallpaper with a slightly modified Debian swirl logo, and decided to compare it to the current logo on Debian.org. I think the modified one looks pretty slick.

Interesting, I've never seen that before. At first glance, before even reading what this was about, I decided that I liked the first one more. It's very clean looking. Then I realized what it was, a modified logo. Now I'm not sure what to think. :?

Interesting concept though.

I would say the second one. The first one is nice to but it seems a little to refined, while the second one seems more natural.

I like the second one better, no reason than maybe because it's the official one.

I once tried making an icon out of the debian logo, and it was bloddy hard. If you look at debian icons around, you'll see none of them can capture the logo correctly. That's because the logo is very detailled: it's almost an anti-logo! Iconifing other distro's logo's at the time (redhat and stampede) was not so difficult, so eventually I came to respect a lot Debian's logo as a fine piece of art.
The Debian Documentation website contains the FAQ, Installation Manual and the Release Notes for Etch. They're helpful if you want to learn more about debian!

I once tried making a logo - twice. One is hand made and the other is made using a simple height map. They can be found here:

- I have a couple of versions of the bright one that are currently offline (Just noticed now).
