Could you advise me on the best setup for me to switch between SuSE and Debian?
I have two 80gb hard drives and a CDROM r/w and a DVD r/w drive.
Is it best to put both systems on different partitions of the same hard drive or one on each drive?
Should the drives be primary and secondary or both primary?
Also, what are the best placements for the CDROM and DVD drives?
Is it best to have a DOS partition on one or other of the hard drives?
Many thanks for advice

How best to switch between Debian and SUSE?
This is more a suggestion than an advice.
Primary Master /dev/hda
hda1 40GB Debian /
hda2 39GB Suse /
hda3 1GB Swap
Primary Slave /dev/hdb
CD or DVD
Secondary Master /dev/hdc
hdc1 80GB /home
Secondary Slave /dev/hdd
CD or DVD
Then put GRUB on the MBR of /dev/hda, to be able to choose Debian or Suse at boot time.
hda3 and hdc1 can be shared between the two distributions.

I preffer separating personal data from the sistem, so much less gigs for the os, 6-10 should be enough (i have 4.5 for each of suse and debian, suse needs much more than debian, but i don't have the space yet), then on a different partition make the home folders for your main non-root users. there is one reason to keep the root on the system partition
Enjoy!
