Now I've been here for only a short while, but feel compelled to state the following criticisms:
1. I'm sick of magic posts that vanish without a trace and without a mod even mentioning that they removed it.
2. I dig in the archives reading old threads to learn and have found the level of expertise of the members here amazing. That they be banned over really, really stupid things (or people) is a disgrace.

I realize the mods are not wrong in their actions - merely enforcing the forum rules. But perhaps the forum rules need a bit of altering?

this thread makes me want to stick sharp sticks in my eyes.

for the recored -
I have never received anything but sound and sensible advice in this forum.
I have never been "flamed or attacked."
I don't generally participate in "drama threads" (this one being an exception).

Let me try to be serious here. I take exception to the OP's thesis. The atmosphere of the entire board cannot be judged by a few flame wars in the Discussion section. The real work of the board is in the Help section. There you will find knowledgeable people trying to assist others with many issues. Most people who come here asking for help, receive it. One thing I have noticed is that every thread that the OP starts or posts in eventually turns into a flame war. I know that my sarcastic responses do nothing except throw fuel on the flames. I'll do better. Enough said.

Whoa there. Just a minute. Get your priorities straight. How can you see to read the rest of this beautiful literary discussion with sticks in your eyes.

I said I'd do better didn't I? I lied.

Maybe the mods/admins, instead of having a pop at Penguin Skinner for stating what is as plain as daylight, should deal with people like Nomko by excluding them. He/she/it has done very little except try to annoy people since joining.

This thread was started by Nomko, who gave it the title "Forum uproar" and after one sentence launched into the usual tedious flames and insults, not as a reply to anyone because this is post 1! but apparently simply out of habit, and all the while accusing everyone else of doing something wrong. And a mod steps in a defends that????

If people like Nomko can carry on with this bs repeatedly and almost continually then what will be left when everyone who doesn't want to spend time with idiots, or clearing up the mess made by their cretinous advice, has stopped checking in? Maybe just a small crew of twits giving rotten "advice" to unsuspecting newcomers?

People like Nomko drag this place down. Don't sanction someone for calling the asshole and asshole. Do something about the asshole.

wouldn't it be nice if the community got to vote on things like banning, what is/isn't offensive, and so forth....might make the place even more friendly....

just thinking out loud here.....carry on....

Nomko is likely a teenager who gets his kicks by doing this. The more responses he gets, the happier he is. So why don't you all resolve to never respond to his posts again, ever. Send anyone who responds to his messages a warning that he is a troll, with a link to all his posts. If you must respond, create an account with a name such as, "nomo_is_a_troll" and reply with a simple "don't feed the trolls" post.

That sounds fine at first but actually it's a very poor strategy. What do you do when idiots like this are jumping into help threads? They offer terrible advice to people seeking help and at the same time their noise makes any good advice less prominent. It also discourages people who can help from even starting to do so because it means contending with noisy, rude idiots as well as putting time into offering help. The best resolution is for people like this to modify their own behaviour and if that isn't possible then the next best is for them to be excluded.

The facepalm images should be a pretty clear hint...

@ Penguin Skinner and JohnDeere360 --

Having left these forums once before ... I can tell you that the experience is cathartic. You stop caring about the trolls and what they say. It just isn't that important to you anymore.

I hope that you return one day and I hope that you will be in a serene state of mind when you do.

Until then, you will be missed.

Best regards and warm wishes to both of you,

This thread has turned into just another flame war. Personal attacks all over as well. As such I am locking the thread.

Nokimo, if you continue to intentionally incite flame wars, your next ban will be a permanent one instead of just two weeks.
