What desktop/window manager do you use?
There have been changes in desktop linux recently, with GNOME 3 and Unity being released. So I thought it would be a good time to have a poll like this.
Re: What desktop/window manager do you use?
I am using Gnome 2 with the Gnome 3 shell, and when Gnome 3 hits testing I will be using it. Otherwise XFCE, which I will use for all legacy machines.
Always on Debian Testing
Re: What desktop/window manager do you use?
Mostly XFCE on my laptop. Sometimes Openbox. I use Openbox when I will use 'heavy' programs, like Virtualbox. But that's not very common to me.
On the workstations (3 + 2 laptops) all XFCE running on Squeeze/Backports.
My own laptop is running Wheezy and today I upgraded XFCE to 4.8 using the Sid repository.

I use Gnome 3 on my LFS build until it reaches Debian Testing. I also have Squeeze and Gnome 2 installed in case I mess up LFS configuration.

Using Gnome 2 in Debian Squeeze.
Been switching between KDE and Gnome forever. I love KDE with a passion. But there are certain kinks that simply do not exist or are easily fixed in Gnome which, in Squeeze, is as close to perfection as possible.
I'm sticking to Gnome for now.

Debian's default one; Gnome.
I like Gnome's simplicity and its tool set. It is the best desktop environment that I have ever tried. On the other hand, I cannot stand KDE's never ending options and menus, and I had always considered Xfce as a second-rate Gnome (until version 4.8).
I must say that I have never used a window manager; I have tried them on live CD's, but that's it. I won't leave Gnome for a window manager, but I will flirt with one; just to learn something.

KDE 4.4.5 on Debian Squeeze.

The worst infection of all, is a false sense of security!
It is hard to get away from CLI tools.

Gnome 2 mainly but will play around with Openbox, like now on this machine.

Re: What desktop/window manager do you use?
I voted Gnome 2 which I prefer and have always used it as my main DE and also on my Acer Extensa laptop. I also use LXDE on my Acer Aspire One although I'm not exactly enthralled with it.
Maybe one day I'll use Gnome 3 but I'm really quite happy with what I've got now.

$ vrms
No non-free or contrib packages installed on debian! rms would be proud.

If I vote for KDE, I get "The submitted form was invalid. Try submitting again.". Is this on purpose?
Because let’s face it, the unfortunate aspect of software development is that it involves humans. Mewling, disorganized, miserably analog humans. Sometimes they smell bad.
Re: What desktop/window manager do you use?
"Still" on Gnome 2 here, on desktop and laptop. We'll see when Gnome 3 will be in Wheezy...

Gnome throughout Etch and Lenny years.
Two things this Squeeze box will not be seeing
*excessive bloat ie.. gnome
*flash plugin no free
Seem to have settled on Openbox, but may still try some other WMs. Rat for instance.
