Browser Alternative

#1 Post by al3xanr0 »

For those of you who are interested in an alternative to Firefox, I introduce to some while presenting to others swiftfox. Swiftfox claims architectural optimization which, is an incentive over FF2 which in my experience is painfully slow.

P.S. Feed back is not necessary of course but, always welcome.

So, is it only available for Sid? Or do i have to change the repo to 'testing'?

Iceweasel isn't any slower than swiftfox. Btw there are swiftfox repos, so that you can just use Synaptic/APT to install it :
# Swiftfox - Firefox builds for your CPU
# deb http://getswiftfox.com/builds/debian unstable non-free

Just change it to your release like stable, testing. swiftfox has never played nice for me, but Iceweasel is much faster than previous Debian versions of Firefox.

There are many browser choices like: Iceape/Seamonkey, Opera, Konqueror, Galeon, Epiphany, the Mozilla version of Firefox, and super fast ones like link2, elinks, dillo, hv3; and of course the elite text based browsers like w3m and lynx.

Isn't IceWeasel based on Firefox 1.5 series? If they make a version based on Firefox 2 with tabbed browsing, I might just try that! :P

If you would be so nice, could you make a screenshot of your IceWeasel with multiple websites open? I just want to see how it does look.. if you can upload the image for example to www.imageshack.us I would be very thankful. (PS: I know Google has some pictures of IceWeasel, but I just want to be sure)

Thanks!

DEBIAN iceweasel is 2.0
AFAIK GNU iceweasel is a 1.5 codebase build

two different projects - same name

Yeah that made me a little confused and I thought it was the same project... so that's why I wanted to be sure the Debian version is based on 2.0 and not 1.5 like the Gnuzilla one..
