Hi all,
I recently attended a small conference on copyrights, patents etc. There an interesting point about Geographical Indication propped up where it was mentioned that the protection is only for 20 years. I looked into the Indian statue at and indeed 20 years seems to be the limit :-
10. How long the registration of Geographical Indication is valid?
X The registration of a geographical indication is valid for a period of 10 years.
11. Can a Geographical Indication be renewed?
X It can be renewed from time to time for further period of 10 years each.
My query is in two parts :-
a. Do other countries have longer time-spans of protection enjoyed or less ? For e.g. France (famous for it cheese and champagne)
b. Have there been any copyleft authors/writers who have shared their thought process/stand on geographical indication ?
The wiki article has very less info. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geographical_indication
Scheduled Maintenance: We are aware of an issue with Google, AOL, and Yahoo services as email providers which are blocking new registrations. We are trying to fix the issue and we have several internal and external support tickets in process to resolve the issue. Please see: viewtopic.php?t=158230
