Which 'apps', should I include the one that came into Debian free from google without the maintainers' knowledge?
Debian == { > 30, 000 packages }; Debian != systemd
The worst infection of all, is a false sense of security!
It is hard to get away from CLI tools.

Ghostery. Blocks all trackers and ads. I don't need anything else for this.

LastPass. Password safe, works on any platform including mobiles.

Minilock. Encrypts/decrypts files, can be configured for multiple users to decrypt if you have their passphrases. Very convenient.

Google Keep. Note-taking app that works across platforms. Good for taking quick notes and reminders that you need to access from other devices.

Hangouts. The premier video conferencing app. Works on all platforms - Linux, Windows, OS-X, mobile devices. Can conference up to 10 devices simultaneously, video and audio quality are very good. Orders of magnitude better than Skype.
Take my advice, I'm not using it.

I will have to move to Chromium soon when Firefox drops libalsa support and Pulseaudio is needed...
