The repo is hosted in Russia... I don't really know the laws over there. But it is of course illegal to use the illegal software :)

Tina

PS: That's a problem you don't get with free software. It will never be illegal to distribute... ;)

Sorry for the link
But does the same apply to free as in beer software?

Yes, fundamentally the same problem applies to free as in beer only software. You have no right to the software except to use it free of charge (free as in beer). You have no freedom to do anything else. Some free as in beer software may allow you to redistribute it to someone else, but that only gives you two freedoms. And free as in beer software may also inhibit you from distributing the software however you want. For example, you may be disallowed from distributing the software in a packaged product, or resell the software or include the software on a CD-ROM you created for inclusion in a magazine. Even if those distribution rights are granted, you still do not have the right to freely use the software however you want, you do not have the right to modify the software however you want and so on.

Please read this article:
The Free Software Definition
And then read the "About Free Software" under the GNU "philosophy" (it should be called "ideology") section:
Philosophy of the GNU Project
