As stated on my webpage, except Chromium. I'm using Chrome. And in addition to the apps listed, I have a couple of extras in my personal install. Like Tilda and Filezilla

Libreoffice and web-browsers are installable from the menu.

I dont like anyone, i proved catfish, it looked good, i liked the interface but it doesnt work propertly , so i stay with recoll.

Viewnior - Simple image viewer. 1.5-1 have a bug where it don't save the setting so pin the older version.

Shutter does have a lot of GNOME dependencies. Hotshots is Qt-based, like KDE, and will drag in a lot fewer. It's also cross-platform, like almost all Qt applications.

- Avidemux --> Similar to Virtualdub (Trasncoding movies)
--> I love this program, i find it very mature and easy to use, and great look, i chose it as one of my favourites
- DVD Styler--> It feels Nice and easy to use DVD Authoring
- DVD OMGRIP--> Same as DVDShrink (DVD ripping)
- DVD95 --> DVD9 to DVD5 (DVD ripping)
- Audex --> CD Sound ripping

they looks and feels great, i didn't try enought to be able to give a deep valoration

Before kim dotcom left Mega, he wrote that the main reason why Chrome was required to use the service (and not firefox) was because it was the only browser able to cross restricted file directory boundaries. (At least in Win).

He considered that a good thing.

5. Icedove - E-Mail.
6. XFCE4 Terminal - For, well, shell commands.
7. Thunar - File manager. I have used Pcmanfm before, it's good too.
8. Transmission - BitTorrent client. Very good and light for what it does. Much better than Deluge.
9. LibreOffice Writer - I have other LibreOffice programs installed, but Writer is used the most.
10. Evince - Why on Earth does Adobe Reader still exist?
11. FreeCiv and Supertux - Some amusement

ive tried all of them but 11., i will tell you my opinion:
1. Minitube doesnt work in Jessie so to me is crap, i use youtube-dl to play cliente youtube videos:
i.e. open a comand terminal and try.:

4. I also use iceweasel for security, but chromium as browsing experience is much better, it feels smoother, faster and cleaner than iceweasel.
5. Icedove , i find it some confuse and laggy, id recommend you kontact in kde, akonady framewerok is unbeatable you will get in love if you give it a chance.

Thunar and others files explorer are in my opinion shitty, the only one that worth something is dolphin, i need to have a file explorer that doesnt mess with drag and drop, and dolphin ask you always you drag some files for confirmation, thurdermore dolphin give you tabs, split view, previews of any type, zoom in/out easily, and full integration with others kde apps.

10. Okular is much better than evince, i tried both of them, it supports tabs, multiple open files at the same time in tabs, nice square area selection copy/paste, etc.

Evince works for me, and it's certainly lighter than Okular. There is weak support for Chromium in Debian. Icedove is almost same as Thunderbird, and it just works. Sylpheed is good too, though

- Sorry, but thats not true, ive tried nautilus, thunar, and caja and they dont have anywhere drag and drop asking, please show me where to check to apply that function.
- They dont have preview like dolphin which apply to any folder view and any type of files, nautilius and the rest just keep the fix setting in preferences and only show preview pictures, dolphin show you preview of pdf's, pictures, vectorial graphics, movies, words, txts, comics, etc, please dont compare.
- Zoom in/out is like the same you have zoom bar or and zoom buttons, you keep the zoom per type view, again please dont compare.


The main reason i use KDE intead of MATE is because of dolphin (drag and drop asking) and akonady framework (Contacts, mail, calendar of google integrated working great).

KDE is not so demanding like they say, unless not under debian, i've been recently working with 1GB RAM and 1GB CPU, but to be sincere i needed some more RAM so i upgarted to 2Gb RAM, which now i can work work without any kind of problem. KDE consume 680MB with all applications closed. Whith 2Gb RAM y can work propertly, i can open chromium with 20 tabs, and k3b, and Gimp, and Audacious running, and Libreoffice opened at the same time, and works pretty well. Indeed it performance better than XP.

i installed from the web and some vlc dependency and it works as a charm althouht some buggy. As they say on its web plays videos smoothly. Thanks, now i can see youtube HD movies i will add this program to the main list, for any reason i coulndt wathc hd youtube movies in my browsers smoothly.

Akonadi, Nepomuk and the other PIM stuff are the first things I disable in KDE. They are intrusive and abusive of system resources, and probably best replaced with other utilities.Make sure you turn the indexer OFF. In fact, without that crap KDE is not much more memory intensive than other DE's.

I undestand you, i also disable Nepomuk,and replace it with recoll, but aknonadi no way in hell!!! , its too good, to disable it, i know it consumes some ram but it give you too much in change . i first thought like you with akonadi..

I already told you. "Edit/Preferences" If PCmanFM has it, Thunar must also have it. I do not remember all of Thunar's features, because I have not used it in quite a while. The point being, with any file manager, look at all the options in Preferences. You would be surprised at what you find.

I cannot remember any file manager I have used that did not have a zoom feature in the View menu and the ability to add + and - icons to the task bar. Krusader even allows the two panes to have different zoom levels. And as already mentioned, some file managers use the combination of mouse wheel with Ctrl, or perhaps Alt.

In other words, you like what you like and think everything else is crap, and do not want anyone to contradict your opinions and false claims with facts. You started a thread for people to compare their favoured applications. Then when people list applications you do not like, you call them crap because, since you cannot be bothered to familiarise yourself with them, you believe they are lacking features. When your ignorance of said applications is pointed out, you say do not compare. If you do not like comparisons, do not start threads asking for comparisons. And yes, that is what you did when you listed your applications and invited everyone else to list theirs. "I like these. What do you like?" Considering you are on a quest to make KDE look like Windows, it is not surprising that only KDE applications are not garbage.

2GB of RAM is not demanding of resources? I know you hate comparisons, but compare the memory requirements of KDE to Xfce. For even more dramatic effect, compare it to WMs. If you honestly believe a minimum of 2GB RAM to use a GUI is not resource intensive, you have no touch with reality. A supposition supported by your other threads.

Minitube is utter garbage because it can no longer download videos, and the way it accesses the Youtube API ensures that it won't ever make it back into the repositories. Just my opinion.

The current SMtube in Jessie is broken by the API change, but there's a working update in jessie-backports, and you can open a video with Uget in order to download it.
