Re: List of your linux Apps
It's obvious that each person has their own version of a Linux installation.
I use this trick to install "my" custom install. I don't have to waste time installing packages one by one. I can do a full install to my liking as fast as my internet connection lets me.
I create a file named "pkglist.txt" with all of my favorites listed one per line.
Set-up my sources.list file.
# apt-get update
# apt-get install $(< pkglist.txt)
Sit back and let the magic of apt-get do all the work.
The file may have to altered over time as you add new programs or packages are no longer available. Apt-get will chack for any errors in the list before it starts so once it starts it's pretty painless. Saves a lot of time!

With time I adopted the same strategy used by biological systems in which survival and necessity dictate what traits are selected for and which are selected against.
Debian == { > 30, 000 packages }; Debian != systemd

Re: List of your linux Apps
I use Xfce, so some of my programs are simply defaults to that, although I've removed a lot too.
Iceweasel/Opera/Qupzilla/Chromium ( I hardly use Chromium)
Tomboy Notes
Redshift (alters screen color temperature)
DesktopNova (rotates wallpaper)
Evince (PDF viewer that just works)
Transmission
Asunder (CD ripper)
Audacious (multimedia player)
Handbrake (DVD ripper/converter)
Bleachbit
Hardinfo (system specs)
Virtualbox
My computer is pretty basic use.

Re: List of your linux Apps
@ bester69: you're welcome, I'm glad you liked it, I've been using simple-scan since I started using linux, IMHO is one of the best scanning software available for linux!

Clementine seems to be death from 2013,
Thanks for your input, Ive tested today Yarok Player, and im charmed with it, to date one of the best audio player for linux if not the best with audacious.
Pros:
- Very, very well developed (seems professional)
- Very, very smooth--> This like it
- Very mature, nothing seems to crash by the moment
- Well done Integrated interface (streaming music + local audio player)
Cons:
for saying something,
- It seems to lack themes or skins
- Subjetive clumsy handling of the menu funtions

Re: List of your linux Apps
Yeah i didnt actually realise that about clementine, i was using Audacious before Clementine, but audacious used more RAM and took far longer to load up my library. Plus with a few tweaks i preferred the layout of Clementine.bester69 wrote: Hi craig,

Yarock has impressed me a lot so far, it only uses 30-40MB of RAM for me, the UI is almost always instant, i like how there is a Album view, something that i missed with Clementine. Also if a album is multiple CD's, it will display them individual which i prefer a lot, and still gives you the option to view the CD's as one complete list.
Let's hope it makes it's way into the official debian repos some day

I use mpc mostly or ncmpc if I absolutely *need* a visual interface.bester69 wrote:Can you tell us some of the best desktop clients?
HTH
EDIT: it may not be pretty but it sounds *much* better than any of those silly GUI clients and that's far more important, right?

Well, ive been discovering mpd, and its pretty great, ive been using Mpdroid with mpd and several graphicals GUIS for mpd. Among all of them i picked up Cantata.
Cantata is one of the most feature packed MPD clients, excelling at common use cases (playlists, streams, library managment, lyrics)
https://github.com/CDrummond/cantataOnline services; Jamendo, Magnatune, SoundCloud, and Podcasts.
Radio stream support - with the ability to search for streams via TuneIn, ShoutCast, or Dirble.
So I would say the best Audio Players for linux could be with no order:
1º Audacious
2º Cantata / Clementine / Amarok
3º Yarok
4º Nuvola
i think cantata is some better than Yarok
CONS:
You have to install and configure an mpd server, which can give you some headeath if your a noob.

i prefer to stay to easy known graphics interfaces,
so i think Truecrypt its my choice (its works like a charm in windows and linux), i can set my "Truecrypt traveller disk", so i can mount anywhere my encrypted usb volume disk. And even when it has been dropped, it can still live for ages
encfs and Cryptkeeper (encfs GUI) for file system Level encryption. --> i use it to upload my private documentes in MEGA
i would recommend you Cryptkeeper, its very easy to and works pretty well

It give you several manos:

- Basic Input (touchpad and keyboard)
- Navegation

I'd recommend mate-system-monitor
mate-system-monitor is a fork of gnome-system-monitor
i find mate-monitor-system best monitor system appplication, very easy to use,and very complete, i always install it in my kde replacing ksysguard.

Vivaldi browser
Vivaldi is targeted at power users and might just be the browser haven you were looking for.
There are lots of nifty little features already built in, including tab previews and the ability to move tabs to any corner of the browser window.
It has brilliant tab-management features, including a search box that lets you find an open tab by typing in keywords and a “tiling” view that lets you see several tabs side by side.
Nice and interesting alternative to Chromium /Opera browser:
