He can talk all he wants but he can't do anything to Linux, especially Debian. Most Linux distros respect the rights of other's intellectual property, so I can't see anything happening with this. It seems like it's all just empty implied threats.

Perhaps Ballmer realizes that Vista is a flop and this saber rattling, while seemingly aimed at Linux, is really an attempt to stem defections from M$, especially by its big corporate customers.

one thing that stood out for me, in that article, was how ballmer said "we have done very well against linux on the desktop" - WHAT!? WHAT!!??!
since when has microsoft ever acknowledged linux on the desktop before?
business as usual and they'd never have mentioned it, but now apparently they're doing "well" in that arena...
well, when you are on top, the only way you can go is down, and apparently linux on the desktop is becoming a factor - in their eyes, which should speak volumes (:

Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines...
That's my thinking also, Vista is indeed a big flop.michael7 wrote:Perhaps Ballmer realizes that Vista is a flop and this saber rattling...
Bert Garcia - When all you have is a keyboard
Of course they are doing well on the desktop, with their business practices (they are a convicted monopolist) it is kind of difficult NOT to do well on the desktop.Grifter wrote:one thing that stood out for me, in that article, was how ballmer said "we have done very well against linux on the desktop"
Microsoft ordered to pay $1.52B in patent suit
And then there is this headline:
"Microsoft ordered to pay $1.52B in patent suit
Jury says the software maker infringed on Alcatel-Lucent patents related to digital music technology."

M$ on Virtualization
This is interesting too. Another customer-friendly decision by M$.
"The price of the virtualization software does not include a copy of Windows. And to get that copy, buyers have to agree to Vista's licensing rules — a legally binding document. Lurking in that 14-page agreement is a ban on using the least expensive versions of Vista — the $199 Home Basic edition and the $239 Home Premium edition — in virtualization engines."

The founder of the Free Software Foundation and GNU? That's cool!
But it's kinda weird that a pr0-Linuxer like me doesn't know Richard Stallman

Nah. Just perfect proof that only using the term Linux keeps people unaware of the GNU part of it even a pr0-linuxer
