ive tried that and nothing changes. heres the code for apt-get install firmware-ralink

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install firmware-ralink
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
firmware-ralink is already the newest version (0.43).
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
  python-dbus-dev vlc-plugin-notify vlc-plugin-samba
Use 'sudo apt autoremove' to remove them.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 133 not upgraded.

Any enlightenment to be had here? - https://wiki.debian.org/WiFi/HowToUse

The output of the script above looks to be missing some wireless tools.

Doesn't kali do stuff to disable networking by default?
Why are you using it anyway?
Why are you not asking the kali forum?

Quite the opposite, IIRC they often ship a custom kernel & drivers with e.g. packet injection enabled.
If this is still the case, anything to do with network drivers: "Kali is not Debian".
Why are you not asking the kali forum?
Indeed, better help there too, see above.

Tried rfkill? How about the switch in whatever NetworkManager applet you use, if Kali uses NM...

Other than that, basic info needed: What software you are using, exactly what you tried and what errors were reported.
rt5390sta: disagrees about version of symbol module_layout
Was this driver compiled against the running (Kali) kernel?
Can you recompile it? Have you the relevant kernel sources?

Well, I'm running Jessie, and I don't have a rt5390sta module at all. Where did you get it?
If you have that module but it's not in Debian, either you compiled it (and looks like against the wrong headers to me) or it's a Kali thing and you'll have to go ask on the Kali forums.
Do you get anything helpfull from dmesg when you load rt5390sta? It doesn't appear to be loaded, either because of the version error or because the rt2800 drivers are loaded - you may need to blacklist them to use rt5390sta.

That said, rt2800 should work with that card, AFAIK. The presence of rt5390sta makes me suspect Kali does something funky, probably the cause of the issue. Again, Kali forums.
