2 things ububtu tqeak and wintousb

#1 Post by ooseven »

I'm trying to install ububtu tweak and WinUSB.
I use to do it this way

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:colingille/freshlight
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install winusb

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:tualatrix/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-tweak

But now it does not work any ideas?
Thank You.....

I'm trying to install ububtu tweak and WinUSB.
Try doing a search for a "ububtu" forum, I have never heard of that, and
"WinUSB", either.
I don't think Debian uses those.

If you want those kind of programs, for ubuntu, that is the best way to go,
it is not a good idea to try mixing repos for Ubuntu , with Debian.
They are 2 entirely different distros.

I don't think the goal or purpose of Debian is to win popularity contests.
But also there are "tweak tools" for Gnome on Debian,
some searches will show that.
https://packages.debian.org/search?keyw ... tweak-tool

But the same applies, if you are using Ubuntu, it is not a good idea to mix the
packages, you shouldn't try to install Debian packages to Ubuntu.
There may also be some other "tools" to "tweak" other Desktop Environments,
available for either Ubuntu or Debian, you would need to do some searches
on that.

Why would you expect Ubuntu Tweak to work at all on Debian? There are significant differences between the two.

Wintousb could probably be ported to Debian; it's a tool to make a Windows installer from a USB drive if you have the Windows ISO file, much like you can for a Linux distro. I don't think that would increase Debian's popularity at all.

Tip for the OP: spellcheck! :)

This is how FrankenDebian start.

https://wiki.debian.org/DontBreakDebian
Don't make a FrankenDebian

Debian Stable should not be combined with other releases. If you're trying to install software that isn't available in the current Debian Stable release, it's not a good idea to add repositories for other Debian releases. The problems might not happen right away, but the next time you install updates.

The reason things can break is because the software packaged for one Debian release is built to be compatible with the rest of the software for that release. For example, installing packages from Jessie on a Wheezy system will also install newer versions of core libraries including glibc. This results in a system that is not Wheezy or Jessie but a broken mix of the two.

Repositories that can create a FrankenDebian if used with Debian Stable:

Debian testing release (currently stretch)
Debian unstable release (also known as sid)
Ubuntu, Mint or other derivative repositories are not compatible with Debian!
Ubuntu PPAs
