#1 Post by xinu »

Various operating system distributions have already started adopting Devuan as a base OS.

Here below a list in order of chronological appearance

Refracta http://www.ibiblio.org/refracta
Nelum-dev1 https://sourceforge.net/projects/nelum-dev1
Star https://sourceforge.net/projects/linnix

lets see if any larger or more mainstream distros pick it up. Otherwise, its not going to go to far.

Yes, let's see when the larger or more mainstream distros pick it up. Then it'll really take off.

You mean like Mint (Debian edition)? Ubuntu?

I wouldn't hold my breath. (and before anyone gets the wrong impression, I wish Devuan all the best in what it is doing)
antiX with runit - lean and mean.

Hi anti,
will you continue to base antix on Debian or possibly switch to Devuan?

For now, antiX-16 (soon to be released - shameless plug) is based on Debian with systemd and libsystemd0 removed. eudev is in the dev repos and seems to work well on many desktops and laptops, but not all (which is why we will ship with udev). We'll see how Devuan develops and decide for later releases. It doesn't seem like we will change base though.

Unfortunately, systemd is here to stay. The days of devuan are numbered. Presently, most application programs will work with sysv-init. Soon, sysv-init scripts will no longer be packaged with some debian programs that require them. You'll have to write your own. No big deal. But as systemd is developed into it's intended form, distros that don't use it will be primitive by comparison, kind of like graphical FREEDOS vs Windows XP. There is no room to seriously progress without systemd. Systemd is not a bad thing.
i hope this never happens !

Are any Devuan components making it into official Debian repositories?

Here the Devuan Jessie .iso
http://exegnulinux.net/downloads/jessie/
exegnu64_devuan_20160413.iso

ExeGnu is one of the few Linuxdistro that run Trinity Desktop as Q4OS
however if we counted as Trinity desktop on Devuan based.
this will be the 1rst Devuan with TDE desktop.

I see, you were questioning about where is 32 bits version right?
Yeah, they rename it jessie stable which quite confuse us.
Nope, they didn't made 32 bit yet only 64 bit EXEGnu Devuan available currently. I've already checked.
That 32 iso is still Exegnu Debian based.

Its been about 5 months since I last checked in here so my apologies if my question seems dumb.

I have a rather large 32 bit Debian 8 system that I want to *update* to a fully functional Devuan/systemd-less distro. Udev/eudev *needs* to work.

Any ideas/links/suggestions???/

I am downloading the April Beta of Devuan now, so basically asking if there are any FAQs/links

Maybe there are on the Devuan sites.
Did you try first ? :
FAQs for April Beta of Devuan
First hit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devuan
And that lists several resources for Devuan, mailing lists, etc.
devuan-announce list
devuan-discuss list
Devuan community forum
