What kernel do you use

There's now a 4.8-3 Liquourix kernel on their website that no doubt includes a fix; if not, I'll add it. I'm also fighting to get Pale Moon built on the new OBS Ubuntu 16.10 platform--it doesn't like gcc-5, so I'm trying to build it against gcc-4.9. So far, I'm past the point where it always errored out before. The OBS also promises a Debian Stretch platform, but it's not available yet--the same fix would work for that build.

First of all, 4.8.1. was released immediately thereafter effectively removing "buggy crap". It is now at 4.8.3 and likely much more stable.
Second, the next kernel after 4.9 is 4.10.

I was wondering was kernel in kernel.org develop along with Linus as well?
Or just from a bunch of ppl which is not from Linux purely, so they're working together over there, then.
Sometimes I Debianize the kernel from Linus raw kernel from github page. 4.5, 4.6., 4.7, 4.8(Except RC releases)
Sometimes I Debianize the patched 4.7.1-4.7.x kernel from kernel.org like I used to do on 4.5.x, 4.6.x
Then I don't have to worry from kernel.org anymore since they always patched from the raw kernel from Linux github.

I believe https://www.linuxfoundation.org/ is the 'mothership', read the About. If you read the changelogs at https://www.kernel.org/ , each fix states the author, etc. From what I gather, Linus appears to still be the chief kernel engineer. Wouldn't be a good idea to install /use last longterm kernel as a good rule??

In this case, the last most developed LTS would be Kernel 4.4.30 (i think its used by ubuntu 16.04 LTS), this way we would have a nice compromise between stability and newer firmware/features..

well, you know i got used to debian, i feel i know more or less what im doing in debian, i dont want to learn arch or derivades, furthermore debian is a stable platform and a rollback distro what i need..

Ive been testing several kernels from Ubuntu and debian's derivades (liquorix and sparky), and the last version kernel ive got to work pretty well was 4.7.6 Ubuntu's, but this kernel is affected with "dirty-cow", and 4.7 is not LTS, and 4.8.x branch, at the moment is not working pretty well (graphics latency) in my hardware, so now i moved to LTS 4.4.30, this is working also good, a litle bir worse than 4.7.6 but better than 4.8 and 4.9 branches.

I think i will stay for long in Ubuntu's LTS 4.4.x branch, as as you know i cant install this version for debian, I didnt learn to compile a kernel, and i think i dont need it as i can use ubuntu's kernels in debian.

Hmm, opposite for me, my machine hates the 4.4.x branch, loves the 4.8.x branch in PCLOS, went back to 3.13.x from 4.4.x in Ubuntu Trusty (14.04) and I just left my Devuan install the default 3.16.x (I'm keeping Devuan stock on purpose).

But ya know, Ubuntu patches their old LTS kernels, A LOT, so in reality the version is really not that important, except for maybe better hardware support in newer kernels. All the security holes get plugged, etc. Just sayin. AAMOF, messing around with the kernel in Ubuntu messed up the es2tri command, it fails to draw the triangle, even after I downgraded back to the default kernel. No problems with es2tri in PCLOS or Devuan. I should add my Ubuntu install was from the tiny netinst CD, after which I totally scrubbed it of Canonical snoopware, etc, not sure if that affected anything or not, probably not because the kernel farting around was long after the original install date.

I used to reinstall distros at the drop of a hat, not anymore, now I'll have the same install for years, to me it's easier to fix an install than go through hours of setting up a new one back to the way I like them. For example, I have a full set of system GUI sounds in Devuan Xfce, which can be a pain to get working, among tons of other custom configurations, ugh, hours upon hours.

Cool, Im using now 4.8.8 ubuntu's kernel, the issue I had with these new kernels with latency/graphics that made me stuck in kernel 4.7.6, seems to be resolved by migrating ext4 to btrfs, Now i can enjoy last kernels and make snapshots,

what do you mean with bpo's?

bpo = backports = if you're not careful, you'll make a complete mess of your install. I used to 'play' with them, can't be bothered anymore, unless it's absolutely necessary. The trick is to take only what you need, then disable it, because if you unilaterally update with them enabled all the time, some version and dependency conflicts may arise, then it becomes Hell to fix it.

Edit: Oops, just realized you know what backports are, sorry. I think he meant the bpo version is superior to the 'stable' version. I'll shut my mouth now.
