Hi humblepie,

I'd try to replace the SATA Power/Data Cable and double check that your SATA cable is securely attached into the motherboard and the HD.

Try installing Debian, and see if you still get those messages ?

Yes it could be, maybe the OP should clarify, and give some more details.
like what OS or distro they are actually using, version, etc,.....
