Christmas Tree
Just thought I would share the tree that our department has decorated in our spare time.
Hope you like it.

@H-O-A-S
http://www.biography.com/people/isaac-n ... 6#synopsisOn January 4, 1643, Isaac Newton was born in the hamlet of Woolsthorpe, Lincolnshire, England (using the "old" Julien calendar, Newton's birth date is sometimes displayed as December 25, 1642).

Re: Christmas Tree
Well if the "old" Calendar was used at that time then its Dec. 25th....after all Jesus was most likely born in the summer but thats another discussion for another forum.

Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. Three times is enemy action. Four times is Official GNOME Policy.

Re: Christmas Tree
Christmas – atmosphere everywhere, decorations, christmas trees, xmas gifts, parties, Santa claus...it is a celebration of Capitalism, not just a celebration of Christianity. The elderly are dumped in care homes for Christmas by children who have become obsessed with Capitalist values that know no humanity. Western societies have turned into jungles of wild animals in which the strong devour the weak and man degenerates to the level of the animal.

Re: Christmas Tree
No Christmas tree this year, I turned the parrots loose in the living room,
to my wifes horror, they tore off the ornaments, then started on the branches,
..... Bryan , the most intelligent one, pulled the light cord out of the plug, and then they gleefully chewed the cord into tiny pieces.

Re: Christmas Tree
It is now, yes, you can thank the Victorians and Germans for that. And it used to be a celebration of the Winter Solstice before the Christians adapted it to their own agenda.None1975 wrote:Christmas – atmosphere everywhere, decorations, christmas trees, xmas gifts, parties, Santa claus...it is a celebration of Capitalism, not just a celebration of Christianity.

Best way to celebrate it is to get together with people you care about and feast. As for presents? We are having a 'no present' policy this year.
The tree in the OP is genius.

i'd like to see one hung with raspis and various SBCs.
as for christmas: it's depressing.
started off as a way to force pagans into christianity, ended up as a way to force christians into mammon worshipping (though probably nobody forced them).
i was forced to spend an empty 30minutes in a shopping mall yesterday, with a 9-year old kid. that was particularly depressing.
i will try to ignore the next 2 days as much as possible. it's just a weekend.

It's become an annual sale when the shops raise their prices. Everyone is expected to shell out their hard-earned cash on costly Christmas presents. Even Christmas cards are expensive.
On the subject of finances, I notice there's an aptly-named KDE personal finances manager called Skrooge. I've never tried it but maybe it's just the ticket at this time of the year.Scrooge wrote:Bah! Humbug!
