You likely won't find help here. Kali is based on Debian, but it's not Debian. Furthermore, it's a purpose built OS for penetration testing, not for Steam.

I don't think Kali intended for "games", Steam is for games, but besides that
neither Kali or Steam are Debian,..should have posted/asked in "offtopic", or at
the Kali forum.
Who should not use kali
From the above link:
Adding repositories to your software sources which have not been tested by the Kali Linux development team is a good way to cause problems on your system.
I don't believe you got Steam from the Kali repositories, learn to read some documentation, before doing things.

The problem is, those instructions are for "archlinux", again NOT Kali,
Maybe , install "Archlinux", and try ? Or install Debian, and then you can get some help here, if need be.
If you were using Debian, this would be the best place to start.

What is Steam?, I thought it was like Java runtime machine to play games in crossed architectures, but it turned out to be a comercial library game gestor,
they are just linux games and wine games, this Steam is a hoax.
:x

Most of the windows games even doesnt play using Steam wine's version, so this is a pufff.

https://wiki.debian.org/Steam#Troubleshooting

I have no idea if Steam works in Kali but it certainly works in my Debian systems — I can even use WINE to play QuakeLive without booting Windows

EDIT: to clarify, Debian will run Debian's Steam client but I don't use that; Debian will also run the Windows Steam client under WINE and play all the games I have, this is what I use.

The Kali forums are moderated, and the mods certainly wouldn't let this post on there. It's like posting on a Corvette owner's forum asking how to use your 'vette as a steamroller or in the Baja 1000 race--they both have motors and rolling thingys, right?

I like that, so if I install Kali, which is Debian based ,and then install steam,..
I can have a "Kali Steamroller",...wow ! sounds like a mean machine,....I wonder
if the OP got the idea from Mr.Robot ? Is this what "real hackers" do?
I have never seen the show, but these clowns are just plain destructive:

How the Real Hackers Behind Mr. Robot Get It So Right | WIRED
This week on the premiere of Mr. Robot, the hacktivist collective fsociety made good on its threat to bring down the evil E Corp. With a few strokes of the keyboard, a USB stick and a little social engineering, the anarchists infected the corporate giant’s banking division with ransomware, locking up thousands of files and closing it for business.

Hacker is actually just a clever coder--the popular term should be "cracker" for those trying to break into protected systems.

A craftsman uses a tool for its designed purpose: Kali for penetration testing, SteamOS for Steam.

Indeed. Kali is meant to be used for pentesting and only for pentestig. But actually I'm a TI security student, and I really need the kali tools, and is easier to install Steam on Kali Linux, than port all the thousands of tools to Ubuntu or debian or any other distro.
And actually I had made it worked before, but with the new update I just cant make it again.
Oh and I already made it worked using

Code: Select all

STEAM_RUNTIME=0 steam
But that is not the way that it meant to be done.

Then use Kali like an expert. Burn it onto a live CD or USB and carry it in your tool case for use when you need it.

Actually, that method is superior because it uses the local libraries rather than the ancient Ubuntu versions shipped with the Steam client.

https://wiki.debian.org/Steam#Variant:_ ... se_runtime

IMO, you should export that variable in ~/.profile (or whatever) and use the native runtime libraries at all times.

Nice... but I'm wondering why the Steam runtime doesn't work...

In a USB stick it's not possible to use GPU Cracking, like cudahashcat or pyrit... And there is the fact that I'm very good loosing my USB's...

Sorry for my english... I'm not a native speaker...

Problem solved by erasing every libgpg-error.so in $HOME/.local/share/Steam* & $HOME/Steam* & $HOME/.steam*

There are a lot of issues of Steam runtime in Arch, and the solutions also had worked for me.

Here where I found the solution:

https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/48994

Hope that this will help anyone with the same problem as me.
Thank you.

Update

If you have installed bumblebee-nvidia before you installed steam and have an error that says

Code: Select all

libGL.so.1 not found
then you need to run

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get --purge autoremove bumblebee-nvidia && sudo apt-get install --reinstall libgl1-mesa-dri:i386 && sudo apt-get install --reinstall libgl1-mesa-glx:i386 && sudo apt-get install bumblebee-nvidia && sudo reboot
