List of good Debian based distros.
Re: List of good Debian based distros.
BunsenLabs is a nice little distro -- easy-to-install, comes with Openbox, runs well on my lame test machine. That's the only "Debian-based distro" I have installed on a computer at this time; for "real" installations, I prefer Debian, which always seems to work out better for me over the long run than anything based on Debian.
I like having MX and GParted Live available on flash drives for live sessions. antiX is pretty good for that, too. Recently found out about Grml -- playing around with that in a live session on another computer right now; sources point to Testing, comes with Fluxbox. I like Grml because it doesn't come with a bunch of fluff that I don't want/need.

Best Debian based distro: Debian ! Don't see why there is any question regarding good Debian based distros. You want a Debian based distro then install Debian.

Re: List of good Debian based distros.
I have all these distros...absolutely the best distros. Just the best...they're huge. And we have good people working on them; the best people. China has a distro--what's it called? Depin? Yes, Depin. Don't get me wrong, I love the Chinese people, they're good people, but Depin is a Chinese hoax--it doesn't exist. Doesn't exist at all. The Chinese are manipulating the Distrowatch ratings! Yes they are. They are hard-working distro developers, I love them, but I will bring back distros to America!
I use my own distros--yes, only my own. I write all the code, it's the best code. The best! I write the code right here in my room in the Tower. All those other workers here you see here...ignore them. They are just publishing my code. I'm issuing an executive order that will freeze any foreign distros from coming to our great country until they undergo extreme vetting.

Yay for knoppix, that was the first Linux system I used.
Version 1.4
Used it on a old laptop that did not have any optical drive, It was USB only.

I do prefer to make it Debian way for myself, as I am the one in charge of updating and maintaining the system, but when it's a new come to linux, instead of indicating a rebuilt derivation, I prefer to keep as Debian as possible, so I see the post point, and will add a vote to sparkylinux for being as close as possible to Debian non-free and still offer a good quality software, even by that meaning installers for other software, it just make people life easier and keep Debian core robustness.
Do you guys recommend any debian direct derivation distro good for a firewall? I've been using opnsense i386 into an old dell server Pentium 4 with sucess, but wish to go Debian without loosing much time and effort on the task, as the machine is suffering from oldness..
