It's really just another day. The sun rises. The sun sets. All this human overlay of significance is irrelevant (and really annoying).

Merry Christmas to everybody.

Don't pay attention to previous poster, people need days off. People need to celebrate sometimes, otherwise the everyday worries can get better of them.

@Segfault . . . Then take some days off. Why do you need an excuse that turns nearly two months into a season of madness? Don't force your 'celebration' on everyone else. Instead take responsibility for your own mental hygiene and downtime.

Dear golinux. This thread is about wishing merry Christmas. Your leftist/atheist comments do not belong here. Everybody knows left has no tolerance for anything that does not fit their vision of world. Please, start your own thread to discuss these things if you feel pressing need. BTW, I'm not a religious person myself, does not mean I am an atheist.

Just for the record, I can make no firm statement in respect of the existence of $DEITY but I would still like to wish the little baby Jesus a happy birthday.

Anyway, didn't the Christians hijack the traditional Solstice holidays[1] for their own ends?

Happy four days after Winter Solstice everyone! :D

Yes, there are similar celebrations in other religions, mainly old Slav and Nordic. If you watched Vikings TV show, they had almost the same holiday. Live and let live, I say. It doesn't hurt anyone.

Yes, the solstice is worth noting. It is an astronomical event of significance that exists regardless of human preferences and ideologies that twist the event to their purposes. It will still exist long after our species (with all its stupidity) has driven itself to extinction.

it makes sense to celebrate - huddle together and enjoy some good ale - the darkness.
jesus very likely wasn't born on christmas, but anyhow: happy birthday, you were a really cool guy, and never mind what those idiots turned you into after it all happened!

PS: dear Americans, you still have a few days time to fulfil my and many other world citizens' biggest wish for the year. i mean c'mon, for once the right to own a gun could be used for something truly good! pretty please, it's just one guy! you don't have to import muslims for that!

We had a great Xmas day. If you take the presents out of it it becomes a lot easier, believe me, since we had a 'no present policy' this year. Just family, eat and drink, which is how I dare say it used to be before commercialisation.

Interesting, my dad was saying the same thing yesterday, that he'd be turning in his grave if he knew what he had been turned into now.
