Frankly, I'm not surprised. I was expectiong one major open-source company to be sold after GitHub was aquired by Microsoft.
By the looks of it, SUSE has a rather rich history of reselling.

There is nothing wonderful here. The capital always strives to expand, become bigger, hijack new markets, destroy competitors ...

hmmm. to a Swedish firm.
There is a large vacuum and desire in the EU for a "municipal" OS. I'm putting my bet this is the end market. Common individual users will either be a secondary market, or ignored. In the grand scheme, a good move that may succeed.

Ahem, SUSE started out as the German language version of Slackware. It is not nor ever has had RedHat origins. It uses .rpm but is not RedHat.
PS: I think this recent sale was about getting out from under Microsoft, as MicroFocus is very much controlled by Microsoft. Perhaps, SUSE can be independent again, they have not had this chance since the Novell/Microsoft screwups over 10 years ago.

of course it went opensuse when novell came in. i remembered that there was a "commercial" leg from what suse was and misremembered which of the many distros i have used.
