scim doesn't work with japanese and chinese, on antix

#1 Post by millerebonds »

Hello,

I tried to install scim, to type japanese and chinese.

I use antix (this is a debian version for "old" computers I like - I already installed debian on computers, but like this version especially when I give computers to people)

I searched a lot where to put this text in configuration files:

Code: Select all

export XMODIFIERS=@im=SCIM
export GTK_IM_MODULE="scim"
export QT_IM_MODULE="scim"
scim -d
I tried .bashrc, creating .xprofile .xinitrc… finally I put it in .profile

Code: Select all

scim -d
says all is working

I installed Anthy, Chewing, Smart Pinyin, and these three doesn’t work.

I don’t know where to search, I searched a little bit on the web different solutions.

I tested uim, ibus, fcitx, these all doesn’t work.

No, it is not Debian version, antix is Debian derivative, try https://www.antixforum.com/

You're right, people from antix can do something, but I had no answer, and thought it can be common problem between distributions.

https://www.antixforum.com/forums/search/scim/

I currently use archlinux on a computer and classic debian on a second one. With archlinux there are problems too :(

I can test with classic debian, but have no hope it will work well.

Well, if the problem occurs in two distros, check your config, and then perhaps time to file a bug report.

I don't know what is classic debian. I use Debian stretch, and there are for example these packages available:
  • p scim-gtk-immodule - GTK+ input method module with SCIM as back
p scim-im-agent - IM agent for SCIM platform
p scim-kmfl-imengine - KMFL (Keyboard Mapping for Linux) IM engin
    p scim-m17n - M17N Input Method Engine for SCIM
p scim-modules-socket - socket modules for SCIM platform
p scim-modules-table - generic tables IM engine module for SCIM p
p scim-pinyin - smart pinyin IM engine for SCIM platform
p scim-qt-immodule - Qt input method module with SCIM as backen
    p scim-skk - SCIM IM-moottorin moduuli SKK-syöttömenete
p scim-tables-additional - miscellaneous input method data tables for
    p scim-tables-ja - japanin kielen syöttötapatietotaulukoita S
p scim-tables-ko - Korean input method data tables for SCIM p
p scim-tables-zh - Chinese input method data tables for SCIM
p scim-thai - Thai Input Method Engine for SCIM
Sorry, aptitude uses my local language, but *-ja is Japanese input method...

That's great, but this is Debian user forum, I guess most of us are not interested in reading about arch linux here, altough I have to admit they have done very good doc-pages on the net.

You use Debian or not, classic in this sense is without meaning. Antix is just one of those about 130 Debian based derivatives, we don't know what they all have changed so it is a new distro,

Antix made good technical choices for old computers and beginners, that's why I use it.

I have debian on one of my computer, I will take time to test it and say you what doesn't work.

I started a post on archlinux forums, because it doesn't work so well, too many bugs…

On my computer with "classic" debian ( with xdm and icewm ) scim seems to work… strange.

For archlinux, one of the reasons I use it is the documentation.

For me, that something works in Debian, is not strange, quite the opposite. And you still think, was it Antix, is easy?
