Up to you. I checked amazon and they have Intel PRO/1000 Pt Dual Port Server Adapter for $55. Depending on where you can buy from it should be in this price range. I strongly suggest Intel NIC.

Ok thanks for the suggestion - I will post back here if I hear anything constructive from Intel, but otherwise I think I will just buy the network card and save the hassle

Don't rush. Intel may have their own driver for your NICs. Right now you are using the one in kernel and it is not working. Try out the out-of-kernel Intel driver before going shopping.
