GParted Live CD x64 not booting correctly

#1 Post by debian121212 »

I downloaded and burned GParted twice on 2 cds just in case. Both the times it stops after I press the "RUN IN DEFAULT MODE" (first option) after I boot from the GParted Live CD in order to progress to the actual next screen and get into the Gparted live distro.

I just get a blank screen after pressing enter on the first default option and after a while it actually ejects the CD and hangs.

Code: Select all

user@debian:~$ inxi -b
System: Host: r2 Kernel: 4.9.0-8-amd64 x86_64 (64 bit)
           Desktop: Xfce 4.12.3
           Distro: Debian GNU/Linux 9 (stretch)
Machine: Device: desktop Mobo: ASRock model: G41M-VS3.
           BIOS: American Megatrends v: P1.70 date: 11/23/2011
CPU: Dual core Intel Pentium Dual E2200 (-MCP-)
           speed/max: 1603/2203 MHz
Graphics: Card: Intel 4 Series Integrated Graphics Controller
Display Server: X.Org 1.19.2 drivers: modesetting (unloaded: fbdev, vesa)
           Resolution: 640x480@75.00hz
GLX Renderer: Mesa DRI Intel G41
           GLX Version: 2.1 Mesa 13.0.6
Network: Card: Qualcomm Atheros AR8152 v2.0 Fast Ethernet
           driver: atl1c
Drives: HDD Total Size: 2000.4GB (0.7% used)
Info: Processes: 149 Uptime: 25 min Memory: 660.6/3701.2MB
           Client: Shell (bash) inxi: 2.3.5
Theres others with this error that I've read about.

No fix?

I need to resize my partition to install windows 10 and dual boot the 2 os's as my pc doesnt support virtualization and I need win 10 to root my phone.

Any other graphical type ways to deal with this that are noe Parted magic purchase?

If graphical is not a choice, then Im going to have to do it by
1. booting into the recovery terminal.
2. unmount and shrink with a command line tool? How exactly would you go about this process (exact code) to accomplish this right now on debian 9.6?

Any pointers as to this non graphical drive shrinking would be great, Ive never done it and seems risky for first time.

If you have Windows 10 on this machine already why don't you resize it using that? it has the built in option for resizing the host partition while it is running. I can't recall the exact command or menu location for it but search "resize" in the M$ search bar and it should show in the results.

I think the Debian live ISO images all include gparted, or it can be installed from there.

Looks like I just needed to try the other starting options for GParted. I just used Parted Magic instead with no issues at all so I never got to try the other startup options for GParted..

Thanks.
