amd cz-da7219-max98357a sound driver ??

I am using linux Mint debian edition. After quite a bit of work by an expert on their forum I thought I would try here since it appears a driver is not included in the kernel.

Background: I have an AMD A4 based Acer Chromebook which is running a replacement firmware by mr.chromebox which allowed me to just install linux to it. I initially installed linux mint 19.3 but sound wasn't working. After some discussion on the mint forum it was suggested I install the linux mint debian edition. I did that and the problem persists. The sound is not working.

In mint 19.3 sound settings showed 2 output devices - 1 for hdmi via the R6 video (I have no hdmi port) and another for the sound "chip" on the board. This second device was always disabled and I could not get it enabled. After much research by people on the mint forum and myself it appears there is no current driver for the sound. I was pointed to https://code.woboq.org/linux/linux/soun ... 57a.c.html as the driver not yet in the kernel.

Please note that I am not an experienced or knowledgeable user. I followed other instructions and mr.chromebox to get linux installed on this Chromebook.

If it makes any difference it is an Acer CB315-2HT-47WG.

BTW - did someone move this thread? I thought I posted it under the hardware group for sound, etc., problems?
