Any good accounting software?
Any good accounting software?
I am currently using Quickbooks for another business but not using it for my ecommerce retail music book business. I'm tracking everything manually at this point but am trying to make a decision on accounting software and the inventory aspect is my main area of concern. It seems that Quickbooks' lack of costing methodolgies (uses average cost only rather than LIFO/FIFO options) is a serious drawback since our product costs do fluctuate from time to time. In my research of Peachtree, I see that it is more flexible and allows other cost methodologies. Can anyone else share your experience in regard to this issue tell me about any other accounting software that you might recommend for a small retail business? Thanks.
I know of some accounting apps but keep in mind that I've been banned from balancing any budget anywhere at any time. So I couldn't tell you how well these do or don't work.

"kmymoney2" is a very nice piece of accounting software, although I don't know how it would fair in a small retail business. Certainly it does everything I need (and then some), and does a fair whack of what I covered in my accountancy course in uni, albeit it was a half year outside course, so not particularly intense.
I'd certainly recommend a look at the website: http://kmymoney.sf.net
It has screenshots of it's various sections, so you can see what it offers.

Can't see why. Have you reported it yet?rickh wrote:Hmmm! That last post sure looks like Spam to me. Could a bot actually key on specific words in thread titles?

No. Actually, I'm not sure how to report a post for spam here. PM to Lavene?Have you reported it yet?
The comma at the end of the link breaks it, so if it was a bot it was a dumb one. Googling the company turns up the website, and it doesn't say anything on the home page about Linux, only MS.

Seconded on the dumb, if it's pushing a product that only runs on Windows on a forum full of people that wouldn't touch MS's products with a ten-foot pole, if they could help it.rickh wrote:The comma at the end of the link breaks it, so if it was a bot it was a dumb one. Back on topic: I used Gnucash for a time a year or two ago. It did fairly well, though it may be lacking some advanced features. I dunno, as the only accounting that I've done has been in class, by hand. So, I haven't really had the opportunity to properly put any package through its paces.

This thread is a spam scheme. The first post is an innocent looking question, then later a 'reply' with the actual spam message is posted. But since the thread now actually contain some useful info I'll leave it in place.
