Like this one:

Is it just fashion, or does the italic i have a meaning?

Fashion. Linux is written like the name Linus but with an x instead of an s. The i in Linux has as much meaning as the i in Linus (none).

IIRC this was a fairly common thing back in the early 90's when people started to make the first linux logos.

Maybe it was to emphasise the pronunciation...

Probably, because I know many people who say "Lie-nux" instead of "Lee-nix" :?:

I always say Lih-nix.

I also say New instead of Guh-new, and Dee-bien instead of Dehb-ien.

There's an mp3 somewhere of Linus saying it's "Lee-nux." FWIW.

That's how it really is pronounced because Linus is finnish and I have lived in Finland for more than 15 years so I know the accent very well and that's how other people also pronounce it (in Finland).

As I'm Finnish I pronounce it the same way. ;)

I remember reading somewhere that his preferred pronunciation's changed over the years. But lih-nix here.
