Commercial OSS is now OPEN-SOURCE!

I am so happy that the commercial OSS is now open-source. And I don't regret it that I bought OSS just a month ago.

Note that this OSS isn't the same as the one included in the kernel, the "OSS/Free" in the kernel is a very old version of the real OSS and doesn't feature nearly anything.

The real OSS supports software mixing like ALSA with Dmix, but OSS's VMix (Virtual Mixer) doesn't need to be configured and works automatically after you install OSS. The real OSS comes also with a nice graphical mixer and I read that the OSS developers are working on ALSA compatibility layers. A very great thing in KDE is that it supports OSS natively, so you don't need to worry about aRts applications either :)

For Linux musicians the real OSS is absolutely great:
Wired + JACK + real OSS = Very professional "live" performance 1.5ms latency music production!

The real OSS also supports hardware MIDI for cards like the SoundBlaster Live! or the Crystal CS4281 (I have this one and it has a bloody cool FM synthesizer :P )

Please try the real OSS out and you will see how good it really is!

So another great software venture bites the dust and goes 'open'... so sad... so sad...

Naw, just kidding! Good news indeed :D

Tina, go and compile it! It is really great software! After all, it's now free as in free speech
I really hope this gets the attention of the kernel developers and they will include it in the kernel just like they did with OSS/Free. OSS is so much better than ALSA and is a lot easier to set up :)
