Progeny Debian

#1 Post by dawgie »

This distro is worth trying.
Progeny Debian 2.0, Developer Edition Alpha 1
From the founder of Debian, Ian Murdock.
It uses Ian's port of Anaconda for an installer and Discover for hardware detection.

This single disk will install Debian Sarge with kernel 2.4 or 2.6 (or both), a Gnome desktop with Openoffice, It is the only Debian distro that is LSB certified.

It installed on my system (Athalon 2000) in ~20 minutes with very little input.
One of the easiest installs I have ever done. It has a very polished look.

In my opinion, it is missing Mc and Fileroller.

Progeny's goal is standardize the various packages into components.

Sounds great.
I'm downloading it now and I will (try to) install it this evening.
