OMG! UBUNTU!

If it doesn't relate to Debian, but you still want to share it, please do it here

OMG! UBUNTU!

I got a real chuckle....numerous chuckles actually....

Malware has been found hidden inside an innocuous 'waterfall' screensaver .deb file made available on popular artwork sharing site Gnome-Look.org.

This sort of thing was bound to start happening. Lot's of New_to_Linux folks out there now. It all boils down to educating ones self. I don't think this has anything to do with Debian, Ubuntu or Linux in general.
These are possibly the same folks that are more than happy to open attachments and click the *.exe file in their email on Windows.

Could that the kind of user that ubuntu has attracted? Should we be thankful to ubuntu for attracting that type of user?

Ubuntu has really pushed for the masses so these folks will be in the crowd. The only people these users really hurt are themselves.

I can see I need to put it another way I guess.
I don't care what Ubuntu and their users do or don't do. :)
Have a nice day.

You are half right. Not all are a curse.
When it gets really bad we can move to plan9 OS.

Where do you get your statistics from? From where I sit it seems like a plague.

How about taking those users to plan9 with ya and leaving linux for those of us that were more than happy with linux before ubuntu came along.

imho: downloading artwork from gnome-look.org is a different thing than downloading and installing apps
from who-the-heck-knows-him-at-all.
not that it would change anything in regard to the point which has been made

btw: the downloads from the refracta-link in the sig seem to be ultra-save, you won`t even find them without the super-nanny google.
your socialization was during the cold-war, correct?
