Thanks for the comments. I recently started with awesome and I really like it. I can't see going back to a non-tiling window manager now.Nili wrote:I like Solarized color on term. Also like the awesome as a window manager and his panel.

I'm not sure how to make a clickable thumbnail, but here is a link to the full size image.

It look even more clear in full screen
...meantime you can use this method.
From View All Sizes
1rst url -- Original (1600 x 900)

2nd url -- Small 320 (320 x 180)

At first looks a bit complicated yes, but isn't very difficult after a couple of tests
Edit: P.s. nice start with Awesome WM. I'm sure it will look interesting adventure.

Interesting. I didn't know you could put an image in the display field of a url like that. Thanks for the tip.
Re: What does your non-Debian desktop look like?
This is my Devuan Xfce install (1 of 3 distros on my machine). The other two distros are installed to the SSDs, Devuan is installed to an HDD, hence the custom GIMP added text to the wallpaper. I'm working on 10 (yep, ten) different fiction titles right now. Lotteries aren't cooperating so I've decided to try to get rich writing books, time will tell.
See if you can spot the joke in the 'Shining' text (hint, it appears twice)...
First, the default Devuan wallpaper customized...
Now some easy on the eyes wallpaper customized...
Heres the customized wallpaper if you want it...

What's going on here..... is one a VM in a small window?
How did you get Debian install with only 207 packages? My minimal install is approaching 700! Is it command line only?

Re: What does your non-Debian desktop look like?
Nah, just installing Debian sid to a btrfs subvolume and in the middle of configuring it via `chroot`, it's from a minimal `debootstrap` so it didn't even have a kernel at that stage, hence the small package number -- I've since booted it and installed the entire xorg metatpackage so it's probably way over 500 by now...No_windows wrote:What's going on here..... is one a VM in a small window?

Thanks for link links. I may start another thread for this subject. I've gotten my package count down to less than 650, but feel I probably could take it a bit further.Nili wrote:According on my netinst investigation from 2015No_windows wrote:How did you get Debian install with only 207 packages? Gratuitous wallpaper scrot showing the rather lovely jgmenu, which is set to pop up when I left click the status box on the far right of the panel:
https://github.com/johanmalm/jgmenu
The desktop is my usual Alpine Linux/dwm combination.

^ Nice work Garry
I have managed to compile my custom dwm desktop properly (ie, from the ports tree rather than the lazy git method) after following this advice.

I am using `xsetroot` & `date` to set the status box on the right-hand-side of the panel, here is my ~/.xinitrc (plus comments):
I don't use xdm(1) but instead have this line in ~/.profile to launch the desktop automatically after a console login:

I need to look into trying that,I don't use xdm(1) but instead have this line in ~/.profile to launch the desktop automatically after a console login:Code: Select all
[[ -z $DISPLAY ]] && exec startx
OpenBsd

Re: What does your non-Debian desktop look like?
I use this @user .profile --> skiping startX MOTD
On Debian, I think may work on BSD aswell.
Edit: startX on tty1
Code: Select all
if [[ -z $DISPLAY ]] && [[ $(tty) = /dev/tty1 ]]; then
sleep 1s && exec startx >/dev/null 2>&1
fi
