The Linux Mint Blog » Blog Archive » Introducing Update Packs in Linux Mint Debian - http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=1781

As an LMDE user you’re supposed to point to 2 distinct repositories:

The Linux Mint repository (deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ debian main upstream import)
A Debian Testing repository…so here you have a choice and you can pick 1 of the following repositories:
You can play it safe by pointing to the “Latest” update pack repo (deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest testing main contrib non-free)
You can act as a guinea pig for others and help the team with the testing by pointing to the “Incoming” update pack repo (deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/incoming testing main contrib non-free)
You can point straight to the Debian Testing repositories themselves and do without all this (deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian testing main contrib non-free)

# LMDE - Linux Mint Debian http://www.linuxmint.com/blog/?p=1527
# List of packages: http://packages.linuxmint.com/list.php?release=Debian
# Secure APT - apt-get install linuxmint-keyring
# Default LMDE repositories
# deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ debian main upstream import backport romeo
# Introducing Update Packs in Linux Mint Debian - http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=1781
# Latest” update pack repo
# deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest testing main contrib non-free
# “Incoming” update pack repo
# deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/incoming testing main contrib non-free

Added the new LMDE repos and info to my Giant sources.list. Sounds like a nifty idea if they can pull it off.

It seems they are taking it very serious with the Debian based Mint, sounds a bit like Debian Cut/Rolling. If they will have the resources for it we will see but great plans anyway.

I wonder if it would be a good idea for a Debian testing user to change from the testing repo to the Mint Latest repo for a more stable testing..?

This question raises another in my mind... why not get LMDE itself?

Because 'LMDE', as any respin, introduces some (little) bugs and has a more elaborate configuration already setup.
So for Mint users is great but for Debian users it isn't (Debian users can still use the good things Linux Mint has brought to it).

Note that one can use LMDE, like aptosid or another Debian respin, to have a quicker install (but shouldn't ask for help here before being sure the bugs aren't specific for the respin used). So there's no competition here, it's a gamma of options for people to choose from.

And what you call LMDE actually isn't completely precise to describe a distro as soon there will be a Fluxbox and also a KDE edition.

This is what I get whent I try to do an update:

root@danc-e535:/home/danc# sudo apt-get update
Hit http://debian.linuxmint.com testing InRelease
Ign http://packages.linuxmint.com debian InRelease
E: Release file for http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest/dist ... /InRelease is expired (invalid since 52d 14h 55min 18s). Updates for this repository will not be applied.

I found the answer here:

http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=187&t=76556

I will look at your ref also.

I have this error now:

W: GPG error: http://debian.linuxmint.com testing Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 07DC563D1F41B907

I will look up this error.
Thanks for the help.
