Takeoff KDE Launcher

#1 Post by dasein »

Apparently this was released a year ago, but I only found it today: a plasma widget that makes me actually love KDE4. (And mind you, I speak as one who stayed with KDE 3.5 until KDE 4.4 was released!)

I see no mention of it here at FDN, so I thought I'd share:

Takeoff Launcher:

See it in action:

If you're old like me and have orthopedic issues (or bad RSI), this is a "must check out" widget.

(If you've seen the so-called "ROSA panel," this is a similar idea--but a markedly better execution.)

Takeoff is nothing like GNOME 3 (unless GNOME 3 has changed dramatically).

When I first saw Takeoff, I thought I'd hate it (as I do GNOME 3). But it really has to be experienced to be appreciated.

Yes it's like the Gnome 3 Menus. but how did you install? From Launchpad PPA? Anyways the source wont install for me because I install KDE 4.8 from experimental-snapshots.

You can get similar results by adding a keybinding to the default menu to bring it up and just start typing for whatever you need . It is really fast once you get used to it.

You might try these packages; they work for me on KDE 4.6.5 and 4.7.4 so far:
