My Debian desktop is "burlap" and my wife's Windows laptop is "cashmere." That's because she one day referred to hers being "nice like cashmere" and mine being "rough like burlap" (this was when i first installed Debian and hadn't gotten ndiswrapper working yet). i thought of switching the two just because now i've got Debian working nicely, it works very nicely.
i've also thought renaming hers to "borg" and mine "federation," but she wouldn't catch the references or like them when she found out.
I used to not know how one would go about thinking up names for computers but when I started attending the University of Delaware their Unix machines are "the composers": strauss, copland, vivaldi, etc.
Then was when I decided to make my house "the philosophers":
Mine: socrates
Bro's: anaximander
desktop: pythagoras
Dad's: aristotle
Mom's: something hospice (she's a nurse for hospice so I can't touch her laptop, she'd kill me and it's pretty much illegal)
I am planning to buy a laptop...not sure which one though....but once my TO-DO list for dream linux desktop is done (money incl.)...yes....I plan to call it "WEREWOLF"...don't know why...but I like the powerful and fierceful impression it creates in my mind.
Where I used to work, all the computers were islands in the south pacific, I had kauai, but I remeber fiji, oahu, and iona (don't remember the others). Where I currently work the computers are named after greek/roman mythology. At home I'm not creative, my computer name is my name and my wife's is her name, and my laptop is "laptop".
