So I am trying something new: awesome wm. Very interesting. Feels quick and responsive. Still in the learning process, but have figured out how to set colors, add menu items and things.

Image

For the moment, I'm not using the tiling. Got to take baby steps. :)

GNOME with minimal dependencies on jessie with some backports. Here I'm running lxterminal, thunar and some gnome extensions.

Image

The theme and icon-set customizations (Bunsen-Antimon and Paper) are my own. The font is Infini.

-edit- lol, I just moved the thunar window down a workspace. Then I moved it backed up, and when the animation had fused it back with the terminal, I think "eyecandy" melted out of all reference books (like at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark).

@nili
I like the link in your signature, defining K.I.S.S.
The desktop also, but just saying......

In this thread:
http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php? ... 48#p618599
someone asks about opening various "windows" or applications, but
I was not exactly sure what they mean, how ever I do often use multiple terminals.
Is that the same as "windows", ? I don't know about windows much.
Image

So any way, this is my "desktop" at this time, with 3 terminals running.
P.S>
The only thing I know about windows, is I have one in my office.
Just one, I would have to cut some holes in the walls if I want
to open more windows.

Apart from the wooden fixtures or the operating system. Windows are generally classed as the applications that you open within the desktop. Like your browser, or in your case... A terminal-emulator.

Hope this helps. ;)

Hi Garry!
I use Window Manager (WM) spectrwm for my Debian Jessie.

Like any other Window Managers, spectrwm allow us to manage window(s) layout in different ways.
PackRat wrote a very detailed tutorial regarding spectrwm on vsido forum. To shorten the time of reading man page, this tutorial is worth reading.

Regarding Terminal window, you can use tmux/screen (terminal multiplexer) Where in a single terminal window with tmux/screen you can divide it into several other ones.

This example of both "window manager spectrwm" & "urxvt/tmux" terminal
Image

Tiling WM like i3, xmonad, dwm, spectrwm and many others are very suitable for such actions. dotshare.it It is very good page with numerous codes for these things.

It's just a matter of preferences :) Tiling vs Stacking. I used to be a stack user for years knowing the benefits of tiling but one day I got here and decided to stick on tiling.
For more than two monitors or big HQ screen tiling is super recommended.

I wish to been clearly somewhat,

Regards,
Nili

Nice, and w3m is fast browser....

Using "gvim", a "vim" editer:

Image

And "fire fox"-esr, not as fast as w3m, at all.
Interesting, food for thought, "fire fox", not simple
loaded with all the latest "fancy" junk needed to
view the modern "bloated" web sites, almost
"dysfunctional" now.

W3M , simple (K.I.S.S.), very fast and efficient.
Works quite well.

Thank you Garry, w3m it is pretty light cli-browser yes. I usually use it for sporadic cases. Anyway main browser is always Firefox or Pale Moon.
I like tint2 panel on your setup also like the idea of using default theme. I used tint2 for almost two years.

The .gif shot seems well for training :)

Thanks,
I still need a lot of practice with the "byzanz-record" but I enjoy it,
it is versatile, and could be excellent for makeing/showing step by step
stuff.
Here is one I just did now:
Image

You will notice I had to try a few times, I was using "history", to get
my commands, and there were a lot of things in the history, I did
not want to record and post public.

Thanks, but but to give credit where it is due, I don't know
if I would have been able to do the perl script, with out the help
I got at "Perlmonks", but that would be another topic. I have some
"screen savers" as well, written with perl, but do not use them usually.
Lots to learn on that, just scratching the surface.
