Bank of Repositories?

#1 Post by ahiung »

Is there any website or sources where I can access to many many repositories list of apps....(like Google PlayStore)?

For example: to be able to download Google Chrome, I have to add:
deb http://google.com to my server list.
I prefer using apt-get rather than app store like the one in Ubuntu, it's faster.

Thank you.

You should read Don't break Debian

Personally, I only install software from the Debian repositories.

Wouldn't it be better for you just to continue using Ubuntu —or something similar—which facilitates installing proprietary, nonfree software of that sort? Surely it can be installed using apt too?
DebianStable

Code: Select all

$ vrms

No non-free or contrib packages installed on debian! rms would be proud.

If Ubuntu has already filled this role for you, why not use it?

There is currently nothing like it in Debian, the only app(s) that comes close is synaptic and the Gnome Software Center which looks at Debians repos.

In addition to what other people have already said about breaking Debian etc., you could also consider using alternative software which can achieve the same goal and already exist in the repository. E.g. for Chrome, just use chromium instead.

Yes they do have a "bank" of packages,
https://www.debian.org/
Debian provides more than a pure OS: it comes with over 51000packages, precompiled software bundled up in a nice format for easy installation on your machine. Read more...
NO it is not :
....(like Google PlayStore)?
But in any event, 51000 packages
is a very large selection.

You can also use your favourite search engine, to search for other sites that offer packages
for Linux, and Debian, or what ever OS you are using ... Are you really using Debian ?

You don't specify : ""Bank of Repositories?"" there are many sites with lists of repositories,
but that does not mean they can be used for Debian,....
